Review: Kyobo Mirasol eReader – The Screen - The Digital Reader by tomsemin eBookNinjas

I was afraid this would be the case (that Mirasol is not the reflective color screen we are looking for)

Apple's January Media Event to Involve Digital Textbooks and Education? - Mac Rumors by tomsemin eBookNinjas

[–]tomsem[S] 0 points1 point ago

a rumor, to be sure. I don't think Apple is well positioned for this, anyway, e.g. what if one doesn't have an iPad? Is Apple (finally) going to have iBooks for OS X, at least?

KF8 Demo by tomsemin eBookNinjas

[–]tomsem[S] 0 points1 point ago

I assume the comic books (Watchman etc.) and children's books are one existing form of KF8 (fixed layout with 'panel views'). I think Nate is correct that a full implementation already exists on Kindle Fire, though perhaps not a 'final' one.

Ectaco Jetbook Color available for pre-order by tomsemin eBookNinjas

Note that the Triton screen is only nominally '1600x1200': RGBW LCD on top of 800x600 eInk (though detailed specs are lacking). Remains to be seen what the 'effective' resolution is, given this is a 9.7" screen. And at $499 it is difficult to see it competing well against much more versatile iPad or Android tablets. Wonder what OS it is running?

Kindle for Android adds PDF support; Amazon invests in FoxIt by tomsemin eBookNinjas

[–]tomsem[S] 0 points1 point ago

I think this may have to do with developing the textbook market. This is the latest in PDF moves: recent appearance of 'Print Replica' format, improved PDF support on Kindle Touch, etc. I think PDF support on KT (Fire, and now K4Android) is no longer based on Adobe RMSDK (used on K2, K3 & K4), because the respective User Guides no longer attribute Adobe Reader technology.
